KARACHI: The police officer, who is investigating the murder of a college student near Do Darya, informed a magisterial court on Wednesday that he has set free three suspects over lack of evidence.

18-year-old college student, Zafir Ahmed Zuberi, was gunned down while his friend Zaid had sustained injuries near Seaview beach  on Dec 3 when the key suspect opened indiscriminate fire on them.

The incident took place after the victims, who were travelling in a Mercedes car, tried to flee after hitting a motorcyclist, whose friends later chased in Toyota Vigo and opened fire on them.

The investigating officer of the case informed Judicial Magistrate South that no proof was found against three suspects, Hassan Burney, Haider Hussain Burney and Raza Burney to show their involvement in the murder.

Therefore, he said he released them under Section 169 (release of accused when evidence deficient) of the criminal procedure code.

On Dec 11, the magistrate sent the key suspect, Khawar Burney, to prison on judicial remand.

The Sahil police station had registered the case under Section 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the deceased’s father Fahim Ahmed Zuberi.
