Dr Fauzia urges Gov't for serious efforts to get Aafia released

ISLAMABAD: Dr Fauzia Siddiqui has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) acquired votes from the people in the name of Dr Aafia, but it did not do anything for her release – ARY News reports.

Talking to ARY News after a debate held at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Dr Fauzia said that the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif has not made any serious efforts for the release of her sister, Dr Aafia Siddiqui. She said that if the Government pressurizes the United States (US) authorities, then this issue can be resolved easily and promptly.

Earlier during the debate, US social worker, Alhaj Moori Silha Khan referred the arrest and sentence to Dr Aafia as an open violation of human rights.

Naib Ameer of Jamat e Islami (JI), Professor Khursheed told when the people do not get their just rights politically, then they opt for terrorist activities. He added that providing basic rights to all the citizens is the responsibility of the state and it should discharge this responsibility fully and honestly.
