Dr. Maleeha made permanent UN representative

Lodhi has previously rendered her services as High Commissioner of Pakistan in Britain and has also served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States of America.

After securing her status as the country’s first female representative to the United Nations, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi stated that propagating for Pakistan’s national interests in the United Nations would be her first and foremost priority.

Responding to a question, regarding her role in the UN, the envoy said “first and foremost to protect and promote Pakistan’s vital national interests and ensure that the country’s policies and views on critical issues are clearly articulated and fully understood.”

She also added that she would strive to make Pakistan a peaceful and prosperous country and would go to any lengths to ensure the country’s western borders are properly defended.

She stated that it was an honor to be chosen for the job at a time when the country was in a crucial position. “It is a great honour and privilege to represent Pakistan at such a critical moment for the country and at a time when the world is undergoing fundamental changes,” she said after her arrival in New York.

She also added that Pakistan was keenly working towards establishing peace and security in South Asia. She also reiterated that Pakistan would remain firm on its principled stand of revisions in the Security Council and would yearn to see a stable, peaceful Afghanistan.

Maleeha cited 2015 as a year of great importance for the United Nations as it would mark the seventieth anniversary of the world organization. She stated that she would make use of global forums and New York financial community to promote and further Pakistan’s economic interests.

It should be borne in mind that Maleeha Lodhi was posted as Pakistan’s permanent delegate to the United Nations on the instructions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
