LAHORE: Minister for Railways Khawja Saad Rafique on Saturday said that drastic changes are being made to improve the service of Pakistan Railways as it is necessary to keep it abreast with the modern technologies of the world.

“Railways is undergoing a drastic change and it’s necessary to keep it abreast with the modern technologies of world,” he said in a meeting with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Telenor Micro Finance Bank Ltd. Ali Riaz Chaudhary at Pakistan Railways Headquarters in Lahore.

During the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Telenor offered services of 75,000 outlets of easy paisa as ticketing facilitation centers for people who have no access to banks or Railways reservation offices.

Khawaja Saad Rafique said that Pakistan Railways’ passenger count has surged up to 50 million which is increasing every day.

He said that we will provide level play field to all the companies who come up with IT solutions for passenger’s facilitation, Wi-Fi services on railway stations and trains, digitization of system and more.

Later, the railways minister and CEO Pakistan Railways Muhammad Javed Anwar constituted a committee which would work on IT related issues and present practical solutions within a month.
