Driver of online cab service shot dead in Karachi
KARACHI: A driver of a ride-hailing service, Careem, was shot dead in the city’s DHA area on Saturday.
According to police, the man was identified as Saleem Thaheem. The cops say he was a Careem driver hailing from Sanghar.
The police said Thaheem left his house early in the morning and DHA authorities informed the police at 6:45am that his body was found near a local school.
Unknown miscreants fired shots at him and he suffered two bullet wounds that claimed his life. The police believe it wasn’t a robbery because his wallet was found on him with Rs5,000 in cash and both mobile phones were still in his vehicle.
Further investigation is underway.
A few months ago, spasm of killings was reported from different cities in which drivers of ride-hailing services were being targeted by unidentified armed men.
In March last year, a driver of Careem, was gunned down in the federal capital. “We sadly announce that our Captain Sajawal Ameer was killed last night at 10:35 pm in a car snatching incident,” read the statement by the company.
The statement added, “His death is a terrible tragedy and Careem mourns with his family and prays for Sajawal Ameer’s soul. This is the second such incident to have occurred in Islamabad in the recent past”.
