ECC decides to divert gas of power sector to industry

ISLAMABAD: Federal government has decided to divert gas of power sector to industries in the meeting of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), held on Tuesday, chaired by Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, ARY News reported.

It was decided in the meeting that 85 MMCFD of gas presently being provided to the power sector will be diverted to industry sector with instant effect.

It was informed during the meeting that plants including of Hubco, Lalpir, Pakgen and Saba power plant would be transferred to Coal within two years. In this regard National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has been directed to determine the new tariff for all those four power plants within 45 days.

The above IPP’s conversion on coal will result in saving of over Rs60 billion annually, revealed in the meeting.

The ECC also decided that tax on PIA’s aircrafts will be charged in a month or two, which previously was charged for whole three years at once at the time of leasing.
