LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced to cancel the Local Body (LB) elections in Punjab, while the candidates will have to re-submit nominations as per the new schedule – ARY News reports.
According to details, the ECP announced to cancel the LB elections in the province which were to be held on January 30. Hence, nomination papers of more than 2 lac candidates have also been wasted.
The ECP has not yet announced the new schedule of the LB polls.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Election Commissioner (PEC) Mehboob Anwer told ARY News that the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has ordered to postpone the elections, whereas the candidates will have to re-submit their nomination papers.
However, the fee submitted for filing the nomination papers will remain useful for future nominations, he added.
