ECP decides to hold LB elections countrywide as per SC verdict

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold Local Body (LB) elections in Sindh and Punjab, according to the verdict of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan, whilst the DG ECP has said that the legislations are still pending pertaining to LB polls in the federal capital and cantonment areas – ARY News reports.

According to details, the ECP decided to hold LB elections in Sindh and Punjab according to the verdict of the SC; however the provinces will have to request the ECP formally, for this purpose. The DG ECP, Sher Afgan told that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government has been directed to provide complete details to the ECP, regarding the local laws and delimitations of constituencies.

He further elaborated that the ECP had asked the Government for 6 billion rupees for LB elections countrywide and this amount will be enough provided if the mechanism of elections is not changed.

Speaking about LB polls in Islamabad and cantonment areas, Sher Afgan said that legislations in this regard are still pending.

This should also be kept in notice here that the Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued the orders of conducting LB elections all over the country on November 15.
