Final result: Arif Alvi wins presidential race with 352 votes

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday announced the official result of the presidential election.

According to the commission, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Dr Arif Alvi won the presidential election with 352 votes, followed by PML-N backed candidate Maulana Fazlur Rehman who managed to secure 184, while Aitzaz Ahsan of the PPP bagged 124 votes.

A total of 1, 110 members of both the houses of Parliament and four provincial assemblies cast their ballots in the presidential election. As many as 28 votes were rejected for some reasons as 1, 082 votes were declared valid.

In the National Assembly and the Senate, Alvi got 212, Fazlur Rehman, 131 and Aitzaz Ahsan 81 votes.

In the Punjab Assembly, Arif Alvi bagged 33 votes, Maulana Fazlur Rehman 25 and Aitzaz Ahsan one vote. In Sindh Assembly, Arif Alvi secured 22 while Aitzaz Ahsan secured 39 votes.

In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Arif Alvi took 40 votes, Maulana Fazlur Rehman 13 and Aitzaz Ahsan three.

In the Balochistan Assembly, Arif Alvi got 45 votes, Maulana Fazlur Rehman 15, whilst no vote was polled in favor of Aitzaz Ahsan.

President Arif Alvi will take the oath of his office on Sunday. He will replace the incumbent President Mamnoon Hussain whose five-year term is due to expire on coming Saturday.

Dr Alvi on Wednesday tendered his resignation from the membership of the National Assembly.

He had won the constituency NA-247 (Karachi, South-II) in the July 25 elections with 91,020 votes defeating Syed Ali Zaman Jafferi of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan who could garner only 24,680 votes.
