District Election Commissioner Jhelum Khursheed Alam has issued show cause notice to Hamza Shahbaz, son of Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, over campaigning for the by-elections in NA-63 Jhelum after the schedule of election announced.
He has been told to submit a written reply within 48 hours. The commissioner has stated that Election Commission of Pakistan will take action if he failed to reply to the notice.
It should be noted here that Hamza Shahbaz had toured the constituency with the party candidate for the local bodies elections Raja Matloob Mehdi.
The candidate has also been issued show cause notice along with the son of chief minister.
According to ECP rules and regulations, the prime minister, chief ministers, parliamentarians or any of their appointed officials have been prohibited to be involved in the campaign for polls after the election schedule is announced.
The seat had become vacant following the death of National Assembly member Nawabzada Iqbal Mehdi. The polling will take place on Wednesday, 31st August.
