ECP not prepared for LB polls, says Khursheed Shah

KARACHI: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah has said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is itself not in a position to conduct the Local Body (LB) Elections – ARY News reports.

Talking to media at Karachi airport on Tuesday, Khursheed Shah said that the Returning Officers (ROs) themselves do not know about their election duties nor could they be trained.

He said that if 7 lac ballot papers are printed daily, even then it is difficult to accomplish the printing process till the due date of the elections.

Shah said that the distribution of the ballot papers is also not possible till the day of LB polls.

He said that a resolution was passed from the National Assembly, opposing the elections in this manner and still if the polls are held and they are rigged, then it will be a great loss for the country.

The Opposition Leader stated that we do not have any problem with the polls, it is about the ECP because it is not prepared for the polls.

He further said that if the LB polls are held in March next year, then it would be considered as free and transparent.

Commenting about peace talks with Taliban, he said that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said on the floor of the Assembly that no dialogue can be held for the next 6 weeks.
