ISLAMABAD: Just hours before Senate elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday de-seated the member of the Balochistan provincial assembly, Manzoor Khan Kakar.

The ECP gave this verdict on a petition of  Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief who moved it seeking to de-seat the lawmaker.

The electoral body also cancelled the membership of Kakar, who was accused of violating party policy.

MPA Kakar violated his party’s instruction and voted for Abdul Quddus Bizenjo during balloting for the leader of the house after the resignation of former chief minister Sanaullah Khan Zehri.

Later, the PkMAP sacked the lawmaker and announced a legal action against him for his move against the party.

Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, the party’s parliamentary leader, had said the MPA had not only damaged its trust in him, but also violated Article 163 (A) of the Constitution.

In a matter of similar nature, the ECP had dismissed a reference seeking disqualification of estranged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Ayesha Gulalai Wazir for going against party policy.

PTI chief Imran Khan had requested the speaker to disqualify her for violating the party discipline by not participating in voting for PTI’s nominated candidate Sheikh Rasheed in the election for the prime minister’s office.
