PESHAWAR: Eid ul Fitr is being celebrated in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the rest of the country observes Jumatul-Wida, the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramazan.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced a day earlier that Eid will be observed on Saturday in Pakistan after the Shawal moon was not sighted on Thursday evening.

However, Mufti Shahabudin Popalzai, who headed an unofficial moon-sighting committee of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan in Peshawar, announced the end of the holy month with Eid to be celebrated on Friday.

A large congregation to offer Eid prayers was held at Mahabat Khan mosque besides small gatherings at different places in Peshawar and other parts of the province.

However, millions of fasting people are observing Jumatul-Wida across the country with religious fervor.  They will offer Friday prayers and listen to special sermons marking the last Friday of the holy month of fasting.

In Islamabad, the biggest gathering of Juma-tul Wida will be held at Faisal Mosque.

Security has been beefed up across the country to ensure that the day passes off without any untoward incident.

A day earlier, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee met in Karachi while the zonal committees met in Peshawar, Quetta and Lahore.

Mufti Muneeb who chaired the meeting announced that the Shawal moon was not sighted and Eidul Fitr would be observed in Pakistan on Saturday.

It is pertinent to mention here that neighbouring India will also celebrate the feast on Saturday while Middle Eastern countries including Saudi Arabia celebrating Eid today.
