CHARSADDA: Despite efforts were made to shatter a trend of celebrating two Eids in the country, residents in some parts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KP) are celebrating Eid on Sunday.

Last day in absence of controversial cleric Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai, head of a local committee for moon sighting, most of the people were of opinion that residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the FATA might hold Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations with rest of the country.

However, in his absence the committee meeting was chaired by Maulana Abdul Latif Shakir for Shawwal moon sighting and verified 46 testimonies of moon sighting as valid under Islamic Shariah with an announcement made by its member Qari Samiullah Jan that: “the first of Shawwal will fall on Sunday in the country.”

Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were offered in various cities and towns of the province including Bannu, Charsaddar, North Waziristan, and other parts of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA).

President Awami National Party (ANP) Asfandyar Wali Khan was among the prominent personalities of the province who offered Eid prayers at Ghazi Gul Baba Mosque of Charsadda city.

Following the prayers, he said that real issues are being put aside as the government is indulged in safeguarding the premier while talking to media. He also lambasted other politicians including Imran Khan, Moulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and Mehmood Khan Achakzai for erecting hurdles in implementation of FATA’s merger plan with KP.
