Eight terrorists killed in encounter with CTD in Sheikhupura

SHEIKHUPURA: Eight alleged terrorists killed in an encounter with Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) here in Narang Mandi area on late Wednesday night, ARY News reported.

The security officials apprised media that four accomplices of the terrorists managed to flee from the gun-battle scene while two of CTD personnel also sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.

The identities of the slain terrorists could not be established so far.

Three kilogrammes of explosive material, weapons and large cache of ammunition also seized during the operation. All terrorists were affiliated with proscribed militant organization Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, CTD sources said.

The terrorists were planning to carry out a major terror attack in Lahore, sources said. Search operation in the area has been underway to arrest four suspects who managed to flee from the scene.

Earlier this month, 10 terrorists were gunned down in Lahore during a raid by the CTD on April 8.

Separately, at least a man died and eight other people were injured in different firing incidents in Karachi in span of two hours on Thursday morning while police claimed to arrest dozens of suspects for being involved in various crimes in Sohrab Goth area.

A man, identified as Farhan, was injured when unknown armed men opened fire at him in Sheesh Mehal area of Liquatabad who later succumbed to injuries during treatment, police sources said.

Meanwhile, five people were injured near Mangal Bazar in Orangi Town in a firing incident. The injured include a father and a son.

The injured were identified as Abdul Hafiz, Arshad, Shahmir, Zaheef, and Faizan. All injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical assistance.

The police sources apprised the media, in light of initial investigation, that the police has learnt that the incident has taken placed due to water issue in the area without sharing further details.

In another incident two more people injured as result of firing in Sohrab Goth and Light House areas.
