Election on two Senate seats from Punjab tomorrow

LAHORE: All is set for by-election on Punjab’s two vacant seats of the Senate on Thursday (tomorrow), ARY NEWS reported.

As per details, the polling for the vacant senate seats from Punjab province to take place on November 15 (tomorrow).

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf’s Waleed Iqbal and Saud Majeed of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) will contest for the general seat while PTI’s Semi Ezdi will fight for the reserved seat of women against PML-N’s Saira Afzal Tarar.

According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) schedule, the polling will be held at Punjab Assembly building from 9:00 am till 4:00 pm without any break.

The ECP has appointed Election Commissioner Punjab Zafar Iqbal Hussain as Returning Officer besides five Polling Officers for the purpose of the senate by-elections.

The seats were fallen vacant after disqualification of PML-N’s Haroon Akhtar Khan and Saadia Abbasi over dual nationality. Both were de-notified by the electoral body on October 26.

They were disqualified by the apex court for holding dual nationalities under Article 63 (1)(c) of the Constitution at the time of filing their nomination papers for upper house of the parliament.

On Oct 17, a seven-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, had directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold election on the two vacant Senate seats afresh.
