Electricity supply suspended in different areas of Karachi

KARACHI: Electricity supply was suspended to different areas after dust-storm and mild rain hit the metropolis Karachi here on Monday, ARY News reported.

Power feeders went tripped and electricity wires were also broken in some areas due to strong winds which resulted in hours-long powe.

Citizens pushed into deep trouble as K-Electric staff members have vanished from sites which delayed restoration of electricity supplies in the affected areas.

The areas which are facing power shedding for hours since Monday late night include Korangi, Guru Mandir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Orangi Town, Saadi Town, Gulzar-e-Hijri, many areas of Scheme 33, Liaquatabad, Azizabad, North Nazimabad, Malir, Model Colony, areas in surroundings of Abul Hassan Isphani road, Surjani Town, New Karachi, Buffer Zone, KBR, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Sakhi Hassan, and Qalandaria Chowk.

K-Electric spokesperson said that power supplies were restored in some areas. Complaints registered from North Karachi and Gulistan-e-Jauhar areas will be resolved shortly, the spokesperson added.

A fierce dust-storm accompanied by strong winds lashed Karachi on Sunday night, bringing down trees and power poles in different areas of the metropolis.

K-Electric’s high-tension power transmission line tripped, suspending electricity supply to the linked grid stations.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rains along with dust and thunderstorm in the city today (Monday). The flight operation was also affected as the storm reduced visibility.
