ISLAMABAD: Farooq H. Naek, lawyer representing former President Asif Ali Zardari, said that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has failed to provide any evidence against his client in corruption references against him, ARY News reports.
Accountability Judge Mohammad Basheer heard the reference against Zardari today. Farooq H. Naek, in his arguments, said that the prosecution has failed to produce any solid evidence against Asif Ali Zardari.
Naek also said that his client was accused along with others in the case, however, the main accused of the reference have been acquitted.
The defence lawyer also said that the references are pending since 14 years and the maximum sentence in the offence is seven years and fine. However, his client has already spent eight years in prison despite the cases against him were not proven true.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till May 20.
