ISLAMABAD: Ex-wife of Senator Azam Khan Hoti, Shamim Akhtar Kayani has tried to commit a suicide in front of IG Islamabad's office, which was timely prevented by the police and the woman was saved – ARY News reports.
According to details, Shamim Akhtar tried to commit suicide due to non-payment of ‘Haq Mehr’ (amount which the husband has to pay off to his wife and which is set at the time of marriage) by Senator Azam Khan Hoti, following her divorce.
The estranged wife told that she consulted the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for acquiring her legal right, yet she was threatened, after which she registered a case in Kohsaar police station, but the police did not take any action against her influential ex-husband.
Shamim, after being denied justice, tried to commit suicide today in front of the office of IG Islamabad, which was timely prevented by the policemen.
SP Yasir Ali, while talking to ARY News, told that the lady has been arrested for the time being, yet she will be released soon, whereas a senior official of the Islamabad Police is pursuing the investigations of the case registered by her.
