Experts Committee to resolve differences over military courts

Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt, Barrister Zafarullah and Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Khawaja Zaheer will represent the government in the committee.

Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Barrister Farogh Naseem, Afrasiab Khattak, Mushahid Hussain Syed and Hamid Khan will represent the opposition parties.

The committee will try to resolve the differences between political leadership over formation of the military courts, sources said.

A high level meeting being attended by the political and military leadership in Islamabad to reach to consensus over a plan to curb terrorism in the country.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the leaders of all parliamentary parties of the country attending the marathon meeting to decide the national plan against terrorism.

Some political parties including Pakistan People’s Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party had expressed their reservations over a recommendation about constitution of military courts to rapidly decide the terrorism cases.

Jamaat Islami had also expressed their opposition to the military courts in the meeting of the national action plan committee yesterday.

People’s Party’s Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has said that the PPP will give its stance over the military courts after studying the draft of the law.

Awami National Party representative in the meeting has sought time for consultation over the issue of the speedy military courts.
