According to details, President Mamnoon Hussain telephoned ARY News Karachi Bureau Chief, S M Shakil and discussed with him the matter of Faizullah Khan’ conviction by an Afghan military court.
During the conversation, the President said the Government of Pakistan is in touch with the Afghan Foreign Ministry on the issue and will provide all possible assistance for the release of Faizullah Khan.
He also vowed to contact discuss the matter with the Afghan President, Hamid Karzai.
On this occasion, S M Shakil thanked the President, Mamnoon Hussain for offering assistance on the issue.
Faizullah Khan had gone to the north-western tribal areas of Pakistan in order to pursue his journalistic responsibilities in April, this year. There from he mistakenly crossed the Pak-Afghan border and entered into Afghanistan and was arrested by the Afghan security forces.
A military court in Nangarhar province convicted the Pakistani reporter for entering into Afghanistan without travel documents. The court sentenced him to four years’ prison term; however the three-member bench rejected spying allegations against him.
Since his conviction, journalist fraternity from within Pakistan and across the world has been strongly protesting against the decision and demanding the Afghan Government to release the Pakistani reporter immediately.
