FIA officials and ARY News show Sar-e-Aam’s team raided a medical store near a leading government hospital in Lahore over a complaint that the store owner is selling a fake life-saving drug, an antibiotic called Tanzo [Piperacillin (Na)].

The complaint

FIA had received a complaint that the drug was administered to a woman in the hospital but the patient’s condition worsened instead of improving.

The complainant maintained that he bought the drug from a medical store in the vicinity of hospital.

The FIA team approached the pharmaceutical company which produces the particular brand of drug with the sample but the manufacturer denied producing the batch number mentioned on the sample claiming it was counterfeit.

The raid

The FIA and Sar-e-Aam team along with health department officials raided the medical store and recovered at least 10 vials of counterfeit life-saving antibiotic.

The shop owner first said that he was not aware that the drugs were fake but when asked about warranty (provided by pharmaceutical company for selling such drugs), he said he doesn’t have warranty.

The shop owner also didn’t have the invoice or receipt of the drugs provided by seller.

As the FIA Deputy Director Chaudhry Sarfraz threatened him that he will not even get him bail in the case, the shop owner revealed that he has been buying it from a random supplier for about four years.

The arrest of supplier/ accomplice

The shop owner was then asked to contact his partner-in-crime and demand supply of the same drug so he can be arrested.

As the man (supplier) reached the store and saw the FIA officials and Sar-e-Aam team, he started acting like a customer but was nabbed as the shop owner indicated that he is the supplier.

The supplier revealed that he used to buy the drugs from a place in Lohari area of the city and was earning Rs50 per injection.
