RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz will meet their family members and some party leaders, in Adiala Jail here today.
The authorities have allowed meetings with convicted father and daughter duo in jail. The members of Sharif family and some Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders are expected to meet them.
PML-N leaders Daniyal Aziz and some others have reached the jail for the meeting.
Scores of people had requested to the authorities for meeting with Nawaz and his daughter. The Jail administration has been informed about the meeting.
According to reports, 47 party leaders have been granted permission for the meeting. Those who will likely to meet Nawaz included the family members of Abbas Sharif, Haris Butt and Raheel Munir.
Party leaders Pervez Rasheed, Musaddiq Malik, Raja Zafarul Haq and Marriyum Aurangzeb have also been given permission for meeting with the PML-N supremo and his daughter.
Nawaz Sharif was arrested on July 13 along with his daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif when he returned to the country along with his daughter from London.
The arrest was in compliance with July 6 court order against Nawaz Sharif , Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (retired) Safdar.
The PML-N supreme leader was awarded 10 years in prison, while his daughter Maryam and her spouse Capt. Safdar were handed seven years’ and one year’s prison term, respectively in Avenfield corruption reference.
Judge Muhammad Bashir ordered forfeiture of their properties in the Avenfield Apartments and Park Lane of London. He imposed a fine of £8 million (approximately Rs1,292m) on the former premier and £2 million (approximately Rs323m) on his daughter.
