Fans disappointed by Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma’s latest release ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ have asked for a refund.

Jab Harry Met Sejal, directed by Imtiaz Ali, opened to poor reviews on Friday August 4. The film tracks the love story of a tour guide Harinder Singh Nehra (SRK) and a lawyer Sejal (Anushka Sharma).

A dejected fan even tweeted to Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to rescue him from the cinema as soon as possible. “mam, I’m watching #JabHarryMetSejal at Xion cinema Hinjewadi, Pune. Please rescue me as soon as possible,” tweeted Vishal Surywanshi.

Another fan demanded a refund for the ticket and popcorn after watching the film, while another questioned director Imtiaz Ali why there was a need for Harry meeting Sejal.

Box Office India reported that the total earnings registered a ‘huge fall’ on Tuesday (Day 5).The current total of SRK’s film now stands at Rs. 53.75 crore. It predicts that the total collection of Jab Harry Met Sejal will be approximately Rs. 58 crore till the end of this week.

The films failed to impress the critics as well as the audience, and negative reviews and word of mouth has affected the business of the film. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said the film turned out to be a ‘disappointment.’

This is the first time SRK has worked with Imtiaz Ali, and his third film with Anuhka Sharma after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. However, SRK sprung to Imtiaz’s defence saying:

“I have not seen Imtiaz Ali’s previous work. I have always believed the film should go beyond the subject and create some magic. I also believe people come with preconceived notion that they have seen already,” the 51-year old actor said.

Imtiaz has brushed aside criticism that his “touch” was missing from ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, saying he never wanted praise for himself while making the movie.

“I am sure that a lot of people do not think that Harry Met Sejal is an intellectual masterpiece, but I did not intend it to be one,” he told Times of India.

The recent dismal performance of Salman Khan starrer Tubelight and now, Jab Harry Met Sejal, shows that audiences are beginning to prefer content over star power. SRK was last seen in Raees earlier this year.
