KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) convener Dr. Farooq Sattar on Friday said a “unilateral” decision of Bahadurabad faction to support PPP in election for Senate chairmanship would be a terrible mistake.

Addressing media alongside Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair following a meeting here, Sattar opined that the Bahadurabad group should make a mutual decision, after consulting the PIB faction, to support candidates for Senate top seats.

Appearing optimistic to overcome the ongoing party infightingthe MQM-P convener said he would make all-out efforts to unify the party on the issue.

However, Sattar conceded that Rabita Committee-led Bahadurabad group has more senators in the upper house of parliament than his group.

He said Khalid Maqbool, the convener of Bahadurabad faction, has not consulted him over the matter so far.

On the occasion, the Sindh governor said the MQM-P is the major opposition party in the province. “I hope the party will support PML-N in the election for Senate chairmanship,” he added.

The press conferences was held after the meeting with between the duo.

Earlier today, Zubair held a meeting with the MQM-P convener. The duo discussed upcoming election for Senate’s top seats of chairman and deputy chairman, sources said.

The sources further said that the governor conveyed an important message of his party leadership to Sattar during the meeting.
