KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar has voiced concern over what he described as ‘continuous raids’ on party offices and arrest of workers before the elections.

Talking to media here, Sattar said that efforts were being made to keep the people of Karachi away from voting in the general elections on July 25.

“You will only see banners of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other parties in Karachi. Our banners are being removed from different parts of the city,” he said, adding that it looks like as some political parties have been ‘favorites’.

He was of the view that the atmosphere of fear being created for party workers to refrain them participating in election-related activities. He asked authorities to explain reasons of ‘unjustified’ arrests of his party workers and raids on party offices.

He also termed the recent population census in the metropolis as fraudulent and said it showed Karachi’s population below the actual number. He complained that the party workers and voters were unable to participate freely in the election process.

He said Karachi’s population was listed as less than half of the actual number in the census result. The arrest of our workers is an indicator of pre-poll rigging”.
