KARACHI: Following the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s public meeting in Liaquatabad, leaders of two factions of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P), Farooq Sattar and Khalid Maqbool, are letting bygones be bygones and uniting to contest the upcoming general elections as one.

Farooq Sattar, who is leading the PIB faction of the party had Thursday met with the leaders of the Bahadurabad faction to discuss upcoming elections and to try to iron out differences between the two groups.

MQM-P in a public meeting at the same venue in Liaquatabad, in response to the PPP, displayed strong power show.

Faction heads Farooq Sattar and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that MQM-P and the “Mohajir” vote shall not be divided for the larger interest of the Urdu-speaking populace of Karachi.

The senior leaders are now joining heads to be prepared for the upcoming elections. The elections will not be contested as PIB or Bahadurabad but both will unitedly stand for the betterment of the Mohajir population, the party leaders said.

Siddiqui in his speech said that MQM and its voters consider Pakistan as their motherland and all its provinces as parts of their home.

The biggest highlight of Siddiqui’s speech, however, was how he altered MQM’s age-old slogan ‘Hamein Manzil Nahi Rehnuma Chahye’ (we love our leader more than our destination) to carve and raised a new slogan “Hamein Rehnuma Nahi Manzil Chahye’ (We need a destination, not a leader).
