According to Mufti Naeem the elderly, sick and minor children should not fast if their health is at stake or if they have been specifically told by doctors not to. In such circumstances, a fast can be excused.

He also said that those who do not fast, will not incur Kaffara and can observe a Qaza fast later. His comments come in light of the heatwave that has been experienced across the country (especially in Karachi and parts of Sindh). The harsh heat has claimed more than 700 lives in Karachi alone, as people succumbed due to heatstroke caused mainly due to dehydration. Shortage of water and electricity loadshedding have also contributed to the hardships of Karachiites.
