Fawad, Sarwar Khan served notices over violation of ECP code

JHELUM: Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Ghulam Sarwar Khan have been served show-cause notices by the returning officer (RO) of PP-27, Jhelum, over alleged violation of the ECP code of conduct.

The federal ministers have been accused of visiting and announcing development schemes in the provincial assembly constituency ahead of the October 14 by-elections.

The notices stated that their visits are clear violation of Section 233 of the Election Act, 2017, and subsequent code of conduct that clearly bars visits of ministers etc and announcement or inauguration of developmental schemes in the constituency where election schedule has been announced.

Both the ministers are required to appear in person or through their counsel on October 9 at 11 am to explain their position.

According to the ECP, the by-polls are being held for 11 National Assembly and 26 provincial assembly seats.

It said that total registered voters in the country have now reached the figure of 106,000,239 with 59,243,889 male (55.89 percent) and 46,756,350 female (44.11 percent) voters.

The statistics of new amended electoral rolls shared by the ECP revealed that out of total registered voters 60,697,418 were from Punjab, 22,394,212 voters in Sindh, 17,839,845 voters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (including FATA), 4,302,304 voters in Balochistan and 766,460 voters from federal capital.
