ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesman Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday said that corruption cases against anyone cannot be closed, while former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was convicted by the courts and not parliament.

The spokesman said slogans were raised in the National Assembly that Nawaz Sharif should be released, whereas in fact he was sentenced by the courts.

He said that Nawaz Sharif was involved in corruption worth billions of rupees, while the environment of the parliament was worsened by the ruckus created by the PML-N leaders in the National Assembly displaying posters of the convicted former premier.

He said that they are fully aware of the rights of the opposition, but it is not the perogative of the parliament or the federal government to release Nawaz Sharif but rather the courts.

He said that cases against Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari are also ongoing in the courts, and similarly cannot be dropped by the government.

“The main conflict with the opposition is that cases should be dropped,” he said.

Responding to a question, he said that four rejected votes for the election of the Speaker National Assembly belonged to the PTI.

He said the votes for the prime minister will also be around 185. He said that Imran Khan after being sworn in will lay down the foundation of new and prosperous Pakistan.

He criticised the opposition saying that they took their oath of office but still claim not to accept the election result.
