Fawad Khan replaces Saif Ali Khan in Mr.Chaloo

TOP NEWS

Word in B-town is that the Khoobsurat star has sealed the deal to star in upcoming Mr.Chaloo, a Reema Kagti film which was originally offered to Saif Ali Khan. Saif had refused to star in the movie over remuneration differences. Mr.Chaloo, as the name aptly suggests, is the story of a womanizer who traps women with his good looks before conning them.

The next choice that filmmakers considered for the lead role was Shahid Kapoor, who also had to decline as he had signed up for Udta Punjab, in which he stars alongside ex flame Kareena Kapoor. It was only natural then that Fawad Khan was approached to play Mr.Chaloo. Fawad’s Khoobsurat  was released to appreciation and critical praise. The performance enabled him to pocket the Best Debut Filmfare award. According to a source, the Khoobsurat star was approached with the offer to star in the film when he was in Dubai for the Filmfare awards.

“The makers (Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani) and Reema are convinced that Fawad will be able to convincingly pull of this role of a suave charmer who cons women into losing their heart to him and then cheats them out of their money. For him too, it’ll be a welcome change from the quintessential stiff upper-lip royal that he essayed in his first film,” the source added.

The hunt for a female lead however, is still on after Kangana Ranaut has moved on to star in another movie. “After Kangana’s exit, Reema has substantially changed the script. The film has strong roles for both protagonists and a leading lady is likely to be finalised in a week’s time”, said the source.

Mr.Chaloo will go on floors in August and will also have Richa Chadda as well as Pooja Bhatt in credible roles. We have no doubt that Fawad Khan is the right man for the job, as his female fan following from Pakistan and Indian would agree! It remains to be seen who the charismatic actor shares screen-space with as his lead heroine.
