Fazl reaches out to MQM for support in presidential elections

KARACHI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday spent a busy day in Karachi gathering supporting for his candidature in the upcoming presidential elections.

Maulana Rehman visited the head office of the Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) in Bahadurabad to seek support for the presidential elections.

MQM-P leaders Amir Khan, Faisal Sabzwari, Kanwar Naveed Jamil, Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar were present on the occasion. They discussed a range of political issues particularly relating to the presidential election.

Maulana Rehman urged the MQM to vote for him in the elections, and said that the united opposition has nominated him to maintain the balance of power in politics. Therefore, he said that MQM should support the opposition’s candidate and expressed hope that they would vote for him.

MQM-P leader Amir Khan said that the decision of supporting Maulana Rehman will be made in a meeting of the party’s coordination committee. He said they also desired that the problems of Karachi will be resolved and the people will be given relief.

He assured that the decision of supporting Malauna Rehman will be raised in their party meeting, adding that MQM is currently an ally of the federal government, and has also assured support to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Arif Alvi.

Addressing media after the meeting, Maulana Rehman said he requested the MQM to support him. He said that MQM was part of the parliamentary system and has worked for national stability. He hoped that that MQM would seriously consider his request and vote for him.

Earlier, the JUI chief also visited Kingri House and met with Pir Pagara Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi and also sought support from the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA).
