KARACHI: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Dr Jahanzeb Khan has withdrawn the decision of crackdown at the business concerns, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Earlier, the FBR’s Broadening of Tax Base (BTB) unit had launched a crackdown against non-filers across the city.

During his visit of the office of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in Karachi, the FBR chairman held a meeting with the members of the FPCCI.

Talking to the businessmen, Khan said that the FBR staff will not harass the business community. He said an important proposal will be introduced in the next budget to bring all businesses within the tax net.

He said the FBR issued notices to 6,000 people for payment of three billion rupees tax on the basis of the data at hand. The board has so far recovered 1.85 billion from this payable tax.

Chairman FBR said those who have received the tax notices should response themselves. He said he will visit Karachi every month and will hold meetings with the FPCCI and other business associations.

Dr Jahanzeb said some people are paying taxes lesser than their capability. He said the tax collection is a difficult task, the FBR mostly focusing on bringing the non-filers to the tax net.
