DUBAI: Former world number 1, Roger Federer cruised past into the second round of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships with the victory over Germany's Benjamin Becker, ARY News reported.
The fourth seed Federer crushed the Benjamin Becker with two consecutive set win 6-1 6-4 at Dubai Duty Free Stadium.
Serving at 5-4 in the second set, after winning the first 6-1 on the hard court, Federer had two match points but let slip a 40-15 lead.
Becker, however, failed to take advantage of what proved to be his only break point of the hour-long match as Federer, a five-time winner of the event, eventually wrapped up a routine victory, 6-1 6-4.
The world number eight, seeded four at this event, will play either the Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek or American Michael Russell in the last 16.
