Feeding wrong information during census will land you in jail for six months: Marriyum warns

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Sunday said whoever will give wrong information during population census would be liable to criminal charges, ARY News reported.

“The person who gives wrong information about the his personal data or data of his family, he would be sentenced to imprisonment for six months and pay Rs50,000 fine,” she said while flanked by Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor during a press conference in Islamabad.

Detailing mechanism of countrywide population census which is set to be started on 15th March, she said there was complete consensus among members of Council of Common Interests (CCI) for holding census across the country.

She said census would be conducted in two phases. First phase would be held between March 15 (Wednesday) to April 15 and the second phase would start on April 25, with a gap of 10 days, and continue till May 25, she added.

“Total budget allocated for the census is Rs18.5 billion. Six billion rupees would be allocated for Pakistan Army and another six billion rupee for the expenditure of transport, out of the total budget,” she said adding that role of Army holds paramount importance in the census.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said all the arrangements had been elaborated to make the process fair and transparent. Over 118,000 staff would ensure completion of the census and percentage ratio of urban and rural areas would be issued soon after the census, she said.

She said that all the enumerators are government employees and have been fully trained.

The minister of state said that during the door-to-door house listing and population count the profiling of the transgenders and disable persons will be included.

She said for the first time transgenders were being counted and they would be given a separate form in this regard.

Asif Ghafoor said it was decided that transparency of census would be ensured with assistance of Army, that would assign more than 0.2 million men for this job. Those feeding wrong date would be dealt strictly, he said adding that Army was all ready to perform this job.

He said one Army man would accompany one enumerator in each housing block. 8,00 master trainers were trained to render training to enumerators, he added.

“Pakistan Army will provide full security to the census process and ensure law and order situation in the area. Every single citizen is responsible for security and every citizen is a soldier in Operation Radd-ul-Fassad,” he said.

The minister of state for information said this would be 5th population census of Pakistan. Last time census was held in 1998 under the government of Nawaz Sharif.

To a query, she said that a Help Line 0800-57575 has been set up for any kind of information or report regarding the census process.
