FIA arrests DG Nadra over corruption allegations
ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday arrested the Director General of the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA), Tahir Akram, after his pre-arrest bail request was rejected.
He is accused in the Nadra building case and allowing the renting of the building in a non-transparent manner causing huge losses to the regulatory body worth Rs 31 million.
Tahir Akram was suspended in October last year on charges of violation in renting an office building in Melody Market Islamabad which was not utilised by the authority while rents were paid.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had taken notice of renting the building and sent the case to FIA for further investigation. Nisar had also directed Nadra officials to refrain from renting buildings.
