TOP NEWS

SAO PAULO: Uruguay striker Luis Suarez scored twice to secure a 2-1 win over England in their FIFA World Cup 2014 match at Corinthians arena at Sao Paulo, ARY News reports.

The European side tried to exert pressure on the Uruguay side from the start whereas Suarez was posing a threat to the English team throughout the game.

England had a chance to grab the lead but failed when Wayne Rooney’s free kick went just wide. The South American side was happy to keep the possession in the first half.

Rooney was playing like he always has in the Premier League. He was assisting and shooting the ball trying to take the lead for the side.

Whether call it unfortunate or bad luck that Rooney’s second attempt also went in vain as his header hit the cross bar in the 32nd minute, denying the striker his first goal in the World Cup.

However, Uruguy went into the lead after Suarez headed the ball inside the six yard box after a lob pass by Edinson Cavani in the 34th minute.

The South American side missed their chance to double their lead as Cavani’s shot went wide in the 52nd minute.

England showed some life in the match as they created chances in the match but failed to make anything out of them. Rooney finally got his reward as he netted his first of the tournament after a low cross by Glen Johnson in the 75th minute.

Their shouts for a penalty were denied in the 77th minute. The European side was desperate for going in the lead.

Suarez blasted the ball into the goal in the 89th minute to take the lead for his side thus ending the match 2-1.

England has to beat Costa Rica and Italy has to defeat Costa Rica for the second position goes into goal difference scenario.
