The incident occurred in block-2 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. The injured persons were initially taken to a nearby hospital where they were administered treatment for burn injuries. However, five of them succumbed to their wounds. Over six are still under treatment.
Sources said more than 30 make-shift settlements were burnt in the blaze.
According to initial reports, fire erupted as winds fanned cooking fire at a hut that spread to other make-shift settlements.
The rescue officials or police investigators have not given any official statement in this regard.
Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial has ordered probe into fire incident in Jauhar shanties. He has also sought report from DIG East.
