ISLAMABAD: A massive fire broke out in a three-storey building, which houses the Press Information Department (PID), in Islamabad’s Sector G-7 on Wednesday, ARY News reported.

According to details, around half a dozen fire tenders took part in the fire fighting operation and managed to brought the fire under control after hours of efforts.

A large number of people trapped inside the building were rescued with the help of a snorkel following eruption of the fire.

The fire reportedly engulfed all three floors of the building due to which more fire engines were called to put it out.

Television footage showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the building.

Nearby buildings were also evacuated amid fear that the fire might spread to these buildings.

The cause of the fire has yet not been determined yet.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry during his visit to the PID said a committee with the information secretary as its head has been formed to probe the fire incident.

He said a large number of offices remained safe as the fire was brought under control.
