DUBAI: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by three wickets in the first T-20 here on Wednesday to lead the T20 series 1-0, ARY News reports.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first.
Batting first, the Lankans made 145/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Angelo Matthews was the top scorer for the team with his 50 runs followed by Thirimanne with 23 runs.
Sohail Tanvir and Saeed Ajmal took 2 wickets each.
In reply, the Green Shirts were struggling at 96/5 but the responsible innings of 39 runs by Shahid Afridi saw the Pakistani side home in the last over of the match.
Sharjeel Khan made 34 whereas Captain Muhammad Hafeez contributed 32 runs.
Afridi also became the first batsmen to score 1000 runs and grab 50 wickets in the twenty over format.
