LAHORE: Parts of Punjab received winter’s first rain on Tuesday while snowfall was reported from northern areas, thus intensifying cold wave in the affected areas, ARY News reported.

The rain came after a dry spell which had increased the intensity of chill and caused fog over the plains of Punjab and adjoining regions.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain may lash areas including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu while snowfall is expected in cities like Malakand, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

The met department says cold wave will persist for weeks and may intensify further in other parts of the country.

Pakistan meteorological department has predicted that mercury can fall two to three degrees more in the next few days. According to details, cold increased due to north-east chilly winds.

It is pertinent to mention here that mercury had fallen to below zero centigrade in Quetta in the first week of November and the cold weather compelled people to buy warm clothes in Peshawar and other cities to fight the frosty weather conditions.

The met office on October 30 had predicted that a westerly wave is likely to enter upper parts of the country on Tuesday. Under the influence of this weather system rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Malakand, Hazara, Mardan and other parts of the country.  Snow fall over the hills were also expected in Swat, Murree, Gilgit-Baltistan  and other cities.
