QUETTA: At least five people were killed and one other seriously injured when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on their vehicle on Kasi road here on Monday morning, ARY News reported.

The victims belonged to the Hazara minority community, police sources said.

They said armed men riding two motorcycles sprayed bullets at their vehicle and fled the crime scene. As a result, five people were killed while one other sustained critical injuries.

After being informed about the incident, the police and rescue worker reached the spot and shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital.

An investigation has been initiated but apparently it is a sectarian attack, a police official informed the media.

There was no claim of responsibility immediately. However, sectarian violence in over past decade had dreadfully hit the provincial capital, claiming thousands of lives.

The restive province Balochistan, which shares borders with Iran and Afghanistan, is afflicted by militancy and sectarian violence.
