PESHAWAR: Police have arrested five suspects for allegedly printing counterfeit currency notes during separate raids in Peshawar and Jhang on Friday.
According to details, police claimed to have busted a nine-member gang involved in printing fake currency notes in Peshawar. Police officials said that three members of the gang were arrested during a raid on a printing factory and recovered fake currency notes worth Rs60 million.
The officials said that the suspects planned to print fake currency notes worth Rs170 million. Police lodged a case against the suspects and conducted raids in different areas to apprehend their abettors.
In another raid, police arrested two suspects involved in printing fake currency notes in Ahmadpur Sial area of Jhang today. Police recovered counterfeit currency, machinery and weapons from the possession of the suspects.
The suspects Sajjad and Kaifi were printing fake currency notes at their home, said police officials.
Police arrest seven, recover millions from fake currency factory
It is pertinent to mention here that police, on 25 February 2016, had arrested seven suspects involved in printing fake currency in Peshawar.
The fake currency, which also included Pakistani rupee, was worth millions of US dollars, Umar Virk, senior police official in Lahore told AFP.
“Immediately it is difficult to estimate the exact amount because it is huge quantity of fake currency,” Virk said.
Lahore police recovered machines, equipment, chemicals and a large amount of other material used to print fake currency.
