LAHORE: A petition has been filed in Lahore High Court seeking bringing back the assets of 26 politicians including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PTI chief Imran Khan, former president Asif Ali Zardari and others, ARY News reported.
Lahore High Court's single bench comprised of Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan heard the petition filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffery.
The petitioner pleaded to the court that billions of dollars assets of the key politicians of the country are desposited in foreign banks. The money belong to the nation and should be brought back to the country, the petition said.
The petitioner also sought the statements on oath from these political leaders about these assets.
The court had issued notices to the politicians. The high court office informed the bench that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz and Yousuf Raza Gillani have received these notices. But the notices not served over other political leaders and they should be informed through advertisements in newspapers, the court office said.
The court re-issued notices to 26 politicians including Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Imran Khan, Shahbaz Sharif, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yousuf Raza Gillani and other leaders. The court summoned them to appear before the bench in person on June 16.
