LAHORE: Former federal minister and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Khalid Ahmed Khan Kharal passed away on Sunday after a protracted illness.
The PPP leader was suffering from a protracted respiratory disease and was undergoing treatment at a hospital. He was laid to rest in his hometown Kamalia. He is grieved by a son and daughter.
Kharal remained an influential member of the PPP from 1977 to 2012 and remained a federal Minister twice in the government of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
He was considered a close confidant of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. He was also imprisoned during the military rule of General Zia-ul-Haq, and spent fifteen years in exile in Abu Dhabi.

He joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf due to his differences with the PPP leadership but rejoined in January 2017 along with Faisal Saleh Hayat.
He was born in 1939 in Kamalia. He joined the Central Superior Services of Pakistan as an assistant commissioner in 1963. He served in several important positions including commissioner Larkana during Z.A. Bhutto’s era.
PPP co-chairmen Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have condoled and expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of Kharal.
Both leaders also sent a condolence message and paid a tribute for the services Kharal. They prayed for eternal rest for the departed soul and to grant patience to the bereaved family members to bear the loss with fortitude.
