French Open: Federer, Sharapova into fourth round

PARIS: World No. 4 Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova qualified for the fourth round of the French Open in Paris, ARY News reports on Saturday.

Switzerland’s Roger Federer defeated Russian Dmitri Tursunov in four sets. Federer won the match 7-5 6-7, 6-2 and 6-4. The former Roland Garros champion will go head to head against Ernests Gulbis who won his third round match against Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek 6-3, 6-3 and 7-5.

Novak Djokovic of Serbian also dropped a set against Croatia Marlin Cilic but won the match 6-2, 6-3, 6-7 and 6-4 to qualify for the fourth round of French Open. The Serbian will face Jo-Wilfred Tsonga who defeated Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3.

Russian Maria Sharapova outclassed Argentine Paula Ormaechea 6-0 6-0 in just 51 minutes to cruise into the next round of the grand slam. She will face Australia’s Samantha Stosur.
