KARACHI: Gangsters in Lyari attacked three police stations in the volatile neighborhood in possible retaliation of killing of their key leader earlier in the day, ARY News reported Monday.
The criminals ambushed three police stations – Lyari, Baghdadi and Kalri – and opened fire. Police also retaliated, forcing armed men to flee in nearby lanes.
Additional contingent of police was called to the site to combat with the criminals. Earlier in a day, a key Lyari gangster Ghaffar Niazi was killed in police encounter in Musa Lane area. Police also recovered grenades, walkie-talkie sets and large cache of munitions from his possession.
Tw criminals were also injured in the police encounter.
SP Shahnawaz Khan said police were going after the criminals.
Business and shops had already been closed in the volatile neighborhood soon after the killing of Niazi in the morning today.
