On Friday night at around 2:00, four inmates in Gilgit District Jail, made an attempt to escape from jail among them one was gunned down, another injured by police guard while two managed to flee. Following the incident, police carried out a search operation in Gilgit’s Minawar area.
The two escaped prisoners, Habibur Rehman and Liaquat alias Akhtar, were involved in 2012 deadly attack that killed 12 tourists at a mountain camp near Nanga Parbat.
A search operation to hunt escapees is under way in Gilgit under SSP Gilgit Ishaq’s leadership, said SHO Jatial police Abdul Hadi , who is hopeful that they would manage to arrest the fugitives during the search operation.
