A glance at amazing Survivor Series moments
Survivor Series is notable for its tradition tag team elimination matches. A five member team, led by a captain, battles the other team. A pinfall results in elimination of a team member and the match is won when all the members of the opposing team are eliminated.
The PPV has given us some amazing moments and superstar performances.
- The Montreal Screwjob:
The Montreal Screwjob is one of the most controversial incidents in WWE history which is still remembered by the fans today.
Bret “The Hitman” Hart, who was the WWE Champion at that time, had signed a contract with WWE’s rival WCW a week before Survivor Series 1997 and was ready to depart for the company later. He was reluctant to lose the title to Shawn Michaels in his hometown of Montreal.
Shawn Michaels had applied Bret Hart’s signature move Sharpshooter on the Hitman and company’s owner Vince McMahon rung the bell before the superstar could tap out.
The Hitman did not appear in any of WWE’s televised shows till 2010 in which Michaels and Hart buried the hatchet in an episode of Monday Night Raw.
- Debut of The Undertaker:
The Undertaker, one of the greatest superstar in WWE history, made his WWE debut in Survivor Series in 1990. He is the senior most performer in the company.
The legendary Phenom, since his arrival in WWE (formerly WWF), has gone to achieve amazing records and feats. The Undertaker remained undefeated in Wrestlemania for 21 years. He won multiple world championships and the Royal Rumble match once.
The Undertaker has also been in one of the most famous main event matches such as Hell in a Cell match, Inferno Match and Buried Alive match as well.
He is undoubtedly one of the greatest performers in the company.
- Clean sweep of Team Rated-RKO:
Team Degeneration X (Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Hardy Boyz and CM Punk) took on Team Rated-RKO (Edge, Randy Orton, Mike Knox, Johnny Nitro and Gregory Helms) in a traditional Survivor Series match in the 2006 PPV. Team DX won the match with all of its members surviving.
Mike Knox was the first man to be eliminated after receiving a superkick from Michaels. Johnny Nitro was the next to go after CM Punk made him tap-out to an Anaconda Vice.
Hardy Boyz then eliminated Gregory Helms after a Swanton Bomb and Twist of Fate. Michaels got his second elimination of the match after he took out Edge with a superkick.
Randy Orton was the last man to be eliminated from his time after he received a Pedigree from Triple H.
- Roman Reigns goes on an elimination spree:
Roman Reigns set the record for the most eliminations in a Survivor Series match. He eliminated four out of five members of the opposing team.
The moment took place in an elimination tag team match between Team Shield/Real Americans vs Team Mysterio/Usos/Rhodes/Goldust.
Reigns, the juggernaut of the former stable Shield, speared his team to victory after delivering four of his signature moves to Jimmy Uso, Cody Rhodes, Goldust and Rey Mysterio, to win the match single-handedly for his team.
- The Elimination Chamber
WWE introduced a new match type in Survivor Series 2002 called the Elimination Chamber.
In this match, six superstars battle in a chamber made of solid steel, bullet proof pods and chains. Shawn Michaels became the first winner of the Elimination Chamber after defeating Triple H, Kane, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam and Booker T for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Many Elimination Chamber matches have been fought in which countless superstars won championships and championship matches. WWE later made Elimination Chamber an annual PPV.
