Govt committed to introduce reforms in public sector: Khusro Bakhtiar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar on Wednesday said that the present government is committed to introduce reforms in public sector to make it more productive and efficient, ARY News reported.

Talking to Country Director, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ignacio Artaza, the minister underlined that the government’s primary focus was on socio-economic and human resource development to bridge disparities among districts of the country for sustained collective national development.

The minister emphasized that improving governance and Human Development Index (HDI) is on the agenda of the incumbent government.

He noted with concern that Pakistan’s ranking in terms of HDI has gone down during the previous years and expressed optimism that it would improve with introduction of reforms and focusing on human resource development.

The minister informed the visiting dignitary that Prime Minister Imran Khan has constituted a Task Force on Civil Service Reforms headed by Dr. Ishrat Hussain for introducing reforms and restructuring the public sector for efficient performance and output.

He further said that the Government’s socio-economic agenda is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals adding that efforts are underway to frame a comprehensive strategy to achieve all the targets.

The minister appreciated UNDP for being at the forefront of human resource development, capacity building and providing technical expertise in various sectors.

He welcomed UNDP’s assistance in different projects and hoped that existing collaboration will further grow with the passage of time.
